Jim is survived by seven children, Colleen (Michael) Grady, Maureen (Russ) Bumba, Kevin (Sally) Dever, Deb (Gary) Geringer, Kerry (Mark) Farnsworth, Kelly Dever, and Andrew (Tina) Dever, eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his sisters Barbara Antonelli and Patricia Staber and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born September 1, 1933, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Jim graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1951. He continued his education at Moravian College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1955, and then attended graduate school at Purdue University, where he earned a master's degree in Organic Chemistry.
Jim had a successful career working for several chemical companies, particularly Occidental Petroleum and Ferro Chemical Corporation. Over the course of his career, Jim earned more than 50 patents for his work.
Proud of his Irish heritage, he visited Ireland several times. He was excited to learn that his family tree traced back to Tory Island, in County Donegal, Ireland.
Jim was a prolific reader, often reading multiple books in a week, and sharing those books he enjoyed with members of his family. Biographies, history, and political topics were among his favorites. He also enjoyed golf and bowling and was a longtime fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Guardians.
The family will be receiving condolences at Carlson Funeral Home in Medina Ohio on September 4, 2025 from 4-6 pm. A Celebration of Life will also be at Carlson's at 10 am September 5, 2025 followed immediately by interment of ashes at Glendale Cemetery in Akron.
