Kaplan, LA -- Funeral services for James Scott Goodie, Jr. are scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025 for 11:00 A.M. at New Beginnings Primitive Baptist Church – 622 E. Veterans Memorial Drive. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Kinchen Funeral Home – 218 North St. Valarie Street, Abbeville, LA-from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Following the funeral services interment will be at Shiloh Cemetery in Kaplan, LA.
James Scott Goodie, Jr., affectionately known to family as "Lil James" or Goodie," began his life's journey on November 12, 1979, in Kaplan, Louisiana. He was the oldest fraternal twin boy, born after two older children to Mary Louise and James Goodie, Sr. God dispatched angels to signal that He was ready for him while he was at work on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Goodie attended schools in Vermilion Parish and completed the GED program in association with Abbeville High School in 1998. He was employed with Dean Equipment, Inc., where he worked as an Equipment Operator for the past fifteen years.
Goodie was a patient, loving man of faith who cherished and protected his family. His demeanor was generally quiet, but those who spent time with him quickly sensed his wit and great sense of humor. He loved family gatherings and cherished road trip vacations-he loved driving! Mardi Gras was his absolute favorite holiday, and he eagerly anticipated the annual gathering at the float lineup at Pontiac Point with the Mingo/Francis families.
For relaxation, Goodie enjoyed Texas music, slow jams, and old-school tunes. He was also an action movie fan, with his all-time favorite being "The Equalizer" starring Denzel Washington. Family time was of utmost importance to him, and he was always present for his kids' events-whether at school, church, or recreation. Goodie loved his wife, Kayla, and made sure to spoil her with the little things she adored. Date nights were frequent in their household, often including trips to Costco and dinner at one of their favorite Mexican eateries.
James Scott Goodie, Jr. will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Kayla F. Goodie; his two sons, Cortland and Oreon Francis; his daughter, Malaya Jizelle Goodie; his twin sister, Sonia M. Goodie (Christopher); his two brothers, Rodney Goodie and Jonathan Goodie (Antoinette); his mother-in-law, Pauletta M. Francis; two sisters-in-law, Simone and Tyra Francis; one brother-in-law, Floyd J. Francis, Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise and James Goodie, Sr.; his grandparents, Noris Pillette, Sr. and Louise Duhon Demouchet, Frank and Pearl Goodie; and his father-in-law, Floyd J. Francis, Sr.
Goodie's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May we all carry forward his legacy of love, faith and devotion to family. Rest in peace, Goodie. You will be missed.
