Janice Rae Heugel, age 92, of Evansville, Indiana, peacefully went to dwell with her Heavenly Father Friday, June 13, 2025.
Janice was born in Aurora, Illinois, April 6, 1933, to Frances (Miller) and Ernest Allen. She attended Indiana University, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Chi sorority. It was there that she met Kenneth Heugel at a fraternity dance, and together they built a wonderful life filled with love and shared memories.
Janice was deeply committed to her community. She was active in the Junior League of Evansville and devoted 22 years to serving on the board of directors for the Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross Indiana Region.
Jan and Ken shared a passion for travel, and they often enjoyed spending time together with family in Hilton Head. They were also longstanding members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where their faith played a central role in their lives.
For the last 10 years, Janice was lovingly cared for by the staff at the Evansville Protestant Home. Her family expresses heartfelt gratitude to all those who provided such compassionate care for her for so many years.
Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Kenneth E. Heugel; her parents, Ernest and Frances Allen; and her brother, Spencer Allen.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Lynn (Tom) Wahoski and Karen (Rick) Mills of Evansville, Indiana; grandchildren, Sarah (Der'rik) Hardin, David (fiancée, Taylor Robinson) Mills and John (Emma) Wahoski; and great-grandchildren, Kyla Marie and Jacob Harrison.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. A Funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Georgia Chambers officiating.
Entombment will be at Park Lawn Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross, 29 S. Stockwell Road., Evansville, IN 47714 or St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 2300 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN 47714.
