Paul John Lang, 72, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to so many, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023, after a long and courageous fight against cancer.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (nee Bromberek). He is also remembered as the loving father of Kevin (Sara) Lang, adoring Grandfather of Eleanor and Emma Lang, dear brother to Robert (Nancy) Lang and brother-in-law to Annie (Frank) Farej, and caring uncle of Jason (Meghan) Lang, Katie Farej, and Jessica Lang.
Paul grew up in Berwyn to the late Robert and Elsie (nee Peter) Lang. Always a sports-oriented person, he spent much of his time playing baseball and softball in the neighborhood. Many of his lifelong friends came from these teams and they still stayed in touch over the years. He attended Morton West High School, continued his education at Morton College, and then Northern Illinois University, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Education. He spent a majority of his career working for Delta Airlines in various roles and locations over the course of eighteen years, including spending several years in Orlando, a place that he always held near and dear to his heart with the friends and memories he made there. He finished his career as a custodian with Darien School District #61 where he befriended so many wonderful teachers, faculty, and parents, up until his retirement in 2014.
Paul always loved his Chicago sports, mostly the White Sox and Bears, as well as Notre Dame. Most Sundays you could find him sitting at the bar at Garv's or Godson's in Berwyn watching the Bears with all of his friends. It was at Garv's where he met the love of his life, Mary, and they started their family together. They shared an unbreakable bond, and he was the most loving and supporting partner, who cared so deeply for Mary. Paul was a special and encouraging father who would do anything for his son. He was the father that never missed his son's sports games, whether as a kid or an adult. He was a beaming grandfather who wanted to be around his granddaughters any chance he could. He never missed an opportunity to hold them, or play with them, or take them to the zoo.
Paul was generous with his actions and his time, always looking out for others and trying to help however he could. We will never forget the memories we shared, his smile and his laugh, the friendly spirit that he had, and the unforgettable and lasting friendships that we all have made with him. Those memories will never fade.
