Robert "Bob" Burgess beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 2nd, 2024 surrounded by family at the age of 79.
Born in Brantford, Ontario on May 13th, 1944 Bob exemplified the virtues of hard work and perseverance from an early age. He attended high school in Rochester, New York, and graduated from Michigan State University in 1966, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of achievements.
From the onset, Bob approached every endeavor with determination and diligence, earning the respect and admiration of all who crossed his path. His professional journey saw him excel in various roles, from the management trainee program with General Electric, to his tenure as a management consultant with Touche Ross and Plant Moran. Bob's career culminated with his invaluable contributions to Pulte Corporation, where he played a pivotal role in its growth into one of the largest home-building organizations in the United States.
In retirement Bob found a passion for donating his time to organizations working to help high school and college students achieve their future career goals. From his work with the Boys and Girls of the Valley in Phoenix, where he facilitated greater access to internships for students, to his contributions to his alma mater, Michigan State University, in establishing the MSU Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Bob's legacy of mentorship and guidance will continue to impact future generations.
Bob cherished his time with family and friends, enjoying activities such as fishing, hunting, traveling, music and walks with Dewars (both dog and drink).
Bob and Georgia first met at their alma mater Michigan State University and have been married for 57 years. Together, they raised three sons Michael (Dina), Brian (Terra), Kevin (Claire) who have seven grandchildren George, Aiden, Sophia, Ellie, Reagan, Connor and Elliot. Bob is also survived by his brother Don (Donna).
A celebration of Bob's life will be held during May in Phoenix Arizona for local friends and July in Birmingham Michigan for friends and extended family. Detailed information to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following organizations in his honor.
Boys & Girls Club of the Valley - AZ YouthForce
Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & innovation
