Ruth was born October 16, 1928, in Homer, LA, to Edgar White Gill and Verna Torbet Gill. She left us on November 10, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at her residence in Homer, LA, and joined her Heavenly Father. After graduating from Homer High School, Ruth attended Louisiana Tech and received a degree in Home Economics. She then went to South Texas and taught second grade for two years. Ruth then returned to Homer, LA, and met Vernon James in 1952. They married April 18, 1954, on Easter Sunday. In 1955, they moved into her Grandfather’s House that was probably built in late part of the 1880’s, at 720 South Main Street, Homer, LA. They have lived this house their entire wedded life of 67 years. This house was known as “Gill House,” that was divided in the late 1940’s.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Glenwood Gill; sister, Paulyn Gill Dougherty, and niece, Jan Gill Drouan.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, Vernon Darrell James; son, Darrell James; nieces and nephews, Virginia Gill Schneider, Carolyn Gill Topp, Mary Gill Bryant, Glen Gill, John Gill, Ruth Dougherty Fletcher, and John Michael Dougherty.
We thank our wonderful Dr. Salmon, and of full time help at home: Olivia McCowen, Lisa Ford, Sue Buggs, QuaShunda Ford, Mona Hanson, Cindy White and Amanda Patton.
