SGT. Sequoia K. Jones

SGT. Sequoia K. Jones, born on April 11, 2000, in Newport News, VA, passed away on June 4, 2025, at the age of 25.
Sequoia was a beacon of light and inspiration to all who knew her. A proud graduate of Bethel High School in Hampton in 2019, she went on to serve her country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army. Her commitment to service and excellence was evident in every aspect of her life.
Beyond her military career, Sequoia was a devoted mother to her beloved children, Malia and Mylo Mejia, who were the center of her world. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories filled with love and laughter.
Sequoia had a passion for writing poetry and music, finding solace and expression in the written word and melodies that touched the soul. She loved being outdoors, embracing the beauty of nature, and was an avid reader who found joy in the pages of countless books.
Her warm and friendly nature endeared her to everyone she met. Sequoia had an infectious smile that could light up a room, and she was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Her helpful spirit and genuine kindness left a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.
With an eye toward the future, Sequoia was preparing to become a Physiatrist, driven by her desire to help others heal and thrive. Her dedication to her studies was a testament to her determination and ambition.
Sequoia is preceded in death by her grandmothers Dorothy Jones, and Ruth Lawson, and her grandfather David Lee Jones Sr.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her parents David Lee Jones Jr. and Reba Jones; her children Malia and Mylo Mejia; sisters Danielle Lawson Thomson (Michael) and Monisha Lawson; brothers Robert and Montel Lawson; grandmother Betty Whitby; aunts Janet Pollard (Johnnie), Benita Dunkin, Mary Spencer, Robin Sherod, and Ersula Giles; uncles Ricky Louden (Vonna), Bernard Lawson Jr., William Rose, and Yazid "Pudgy" Majdi; her loving nephews; cousins and special friends Tavya Osbourne and Dorthea Council.
The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
