Shirley Jean (Stewart) Burns, born on March 18, 1941, in the quaint town of Henryville, Indiana, departed this life on October 21, 2024. Her journey through life was marked by an infectious joy and a loving spirit that filled the hearts of those around her with warmth and laughter.

A proud graduate of Henryville High School's Class of 1959, Shirley carried the rich memories of her formative years like cherished treasures. She was not merely a student in that hallowed hall; she blossomed into a vibrant soul who wove joy into the fabric of her relationships. Her enduring faith found roots at the New Liberty Baptist Church, where she became a beloved member of the community, exemplifying kindness and compassion in all her interactions.

Fueled by a fun-loving nature, Shirley had an innate ability to turn the mundane into the magical. She was a true connoisseur of life, relishing in the pleasures of good food and the company of her cherished dog, Sassy. Whether she was sharing a hearty meal with friends or sourcing unique antiques, her laughter echoed like music that harmonized the moments of joy shared with others. An avid collector, Shirley delighted not only in the acquisition of antiques but also in the stories they held, each piece serving as a doorway to history and memory.

She leaves behind her dear sister, Betty Druin of Memphis, Indiana, and another sister, Carol Spivey and her husband Tim, hailing from Spanaway, Washington. Lifelong friend Betty Carver of Henryville remains a testament to the bonds Shirley forged throughout her life. The legacy of her joyful spirit also extends to her eight nieces and nephews, along with numerous great nieces and nephews who will carry forward her love and vivaciousness in their own lives.

Shirley was welcomed to her eternal rest by her beloved family members who have gone before her: her father, Wiley Stewart, and her mother, Mary Francke Stewart, along with her brother G. Wayne Stewart and sister Evelyn Casey. They await her with open arms, and the family reunion is surely one filled with boundless love.

As we gather to honor her life, the visitation will take place on November 6, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Let us come together to celebrate the radiant spirit of Shirley Jean Burns, whose laughter and love illuminated our lives — a spirit that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
