Shirley Rae Summerill
January 5, 1943 - May 16, 2024
Shirley Summerill, a beacon of love and selflessness, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister & dear Friend, passed away on May 16, 2024. Born in Ogden, Utah to Clyde Hodson Covington and Opal Price on January 5, 1943, Shirley spent her formative years in Ogden, attending Ogden High School and Weber State University.
Shirley was married twice; first to Robert Porter in 1962, and later to James D. Summerill in 1969. Together, Shirley and James had a Daughter, and he brought three children into their marriage, they later divorced. Shirley was a dedicated employee, serving over 30 years at the Defense Depot Ogden. Her radiant laugh and enchanting smile endeared her to all who crossed her path.
Shirley cherished camping trips, visits to Yellowstone National Park, and the thrill of horse racing. She loved watching the Kentucky Derby, and the roar of military jets flying overhead never failed to bring a smile to her face. In quieter moments, she found joy in gardening and genealogy, the latter of which tied into her diligent work as a Family History Consultant. Shirley was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shirley's life was a testament to the power of compassion, kindness, and the importance of family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her Daughter, Pauline Dickey (John), and her Grandchildren, Jacqueline Stiver (Kade) and Derek Dickey (Valecia Montgomery). She also leaves behind her Brother Joe Covington (Susan), and Sister Beverly Elkington. Stepchildren James Summerill (Cindy), Christine Moellendorf (Jeff).
Shirley was preceded in death by her Parents and her Stepson Michael Summerill, Brother-in-law Calvin Elkington and Niece Lisa Martinez, her Husband Jack and Daughter Emileigh Otteson.
The family would like to thank the Ladies at Wasatch Physical Therapy and the Healthcare staff at Primrose Home Care and Hospice, Aegis Hospice, Brigham City Community Hospital and Maple Springs.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 10:30 – 11:30 AM at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT 84302, followed by a graveside service at 12:00 PM at the Brigham City Cemetery, 300 E. 300 S., Brigham City, UT 84302.

I just found out that Shirley had passed away, I was so sad to hear that. I had the privilege of knowing her for a number of years where she lived because I have done some handyman work in her apartment. She was always so sweet and kind, I'm going to miss her. Mip
