Thomas L. Healy, a Mashpee resident for 25 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the JML Care Center in Falmouth. Born in Clarinda, Iowa on February 24, 1928, son of the late Leroy E. Healy and Florence Pfander, Thomas was the beloved husband of Irene F. Healy (1920-1980) and Anne M. Healy (1930-2011).
Thomas spent his younger years in Clarinda, Iowa, before moving to Pensacola, Florida with his family where he graduated from high school in 1945. Afterwards, he took a bus to Ames, Iowa to attend Iowa State and graduated in 1949 with a BS degree. At Iowa State he developed his lifelong love of swing music (maybe because Glenn Miller was from Clarinda), earning spending money by playing the trumpet in various local bands. Upon graduation, Thomas enlisted in the Army only to be discharged a year later to enlist in the Air Force OCS training. He served in the Air Force during the Korean war and reached the rank of Captain. Thomas eventually got a Masters' degree from the University of Michigan in data processing. Thomas resigned from the USAF in 1962 to start his 35-year career in the private sector.
In 1952, Thomas married the late Irene F. Towle of Brattleboro, VT in Washington, DC. and had four sons (Chris, Mike, Mark and James) while stationed at different bases in the US. Thomas worked for NCR in Dayton, Ohio for 10 years. After changing jobs in 1973, the family relocated to Scituate, MA for a year before moving to Hastings-on-Hudson, NY where he worked for Chase Bank. In 1985, he married the late Anne Moriarty of Lowell, MA. Anne and Thomas retired to
Mashpee, MA in 2000, where they lived out their lives.
On the personal side, Thomas was a handyman extraordinaire. There was no DIY project, repair or improvement task that was beyond his ability. He brought an intense thoroughness to any project or problem, whether it was rebuilding the local YMCA dojo for the judo team or overseeing the treatment plant for Stratford Ponds.
Thomas is survived by his four children: Chris Healy and wife Tanner and grandson Joshua of Henderson Nevada; Mike Healy and Linda of Kettering Ohio; Mark Healy and wife Elizabeth Tolley and grandchildren Elise and Kyle of Chapel Hill; and James Healy and wife Geraldine and granddaughters Maeve and Audrey of Brewster, NY. He is also survived by Anne's children and their families: Maureen and Joseph Bannon of Ormond Beach, FL; Anne Moriarty of Larchmont NY; David W. Moriarty and wife Maureen and children Yvonne and Colin of Weymouth, MA.
Visitation will be held at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave. (Rt. 151), Mashpee on Wednesday, May 28 from 9-10:30AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Jude's Chapel, Christ the King Parish, 3 Job's Fishing Rd., Mashpee at 11AM. Private burial will be held at Saint Michael's Cemetery in Brattleboro, VT.
