Thomas L. "Tom" Wertz

Thomas L. "Tom" Wertz, 82, of Rittman, died Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at LifeCare Hospice following a brief illness.
He was born August 8, 1942 in Wadsworth to the late Lawrence and Doris (Berlin) Wertz and lived most of his life in Rittman and Orrville.
Tom graduated from Rittman High School and married the love of his life, Helen Preattle in 1962. She preceded him in death in 2019.
He was employed as an electrical engineer for Goodyear in Akron for many years.
Tom loved spending time with his family and especially loved his adventures touring with Helen on his motorcycle, rebuilding antique engines and umpiring and watching softball games.
Surviving are his children, Scott (Kathy) Wertz, Leanne Wertz-Frabotta and Peggy (Alan) Brunet; grandchildren, Nikolaus and Taylor Dean and Sophie Frabotta; and sisters, Dolores (Roy) Smith and Bonita "Bo" Cranston.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen; parents, step-father, Melvin Shirey; and brother, Bruce Wertz.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman with Pastor Vanessa Wertz officiating.
There will be no visitation prior to the service.
