Mr. Joseph Harold "Joe" Knoebel, age 85 of
Madison, Indiana, entered this life on July 5, 1937 in
Madison, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late John Gilbert and Virginia Catherine Niesse Knoebel. A life-long resident of Madison, Joe was a 1955 graduate of Madison High School, where he played basketball and was accepted into art school. He then attended Hanover College and while in school worked for Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation during the summers. On June 23, 1962, he was united in marriage to Leeodda "Lee" Hearn at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in downtown Madison. This happy union of 60 years was blessed with two sons, John Michael and Joseph D. In 1957, Joe began working for his father at John Knoebel & Son Clothing Store which his great-grandfather opened on St. Patrick's Day in 1912. Joe later went on to own and operate the family business as a fourth generation owner for 56 years. When the business closed, it had been in operation for 98 years. Joe also was a volunteer fireman for Fair Play Fire Company No. 1 in downtown Madison for over 62 years. During that time, he served as president, trustee, and a board member, plus served on numerous committees. He was also a member of the Madison Elks Club No. 524. He played in the Madison Bank and Trust Company Softball League for several years. Joe was a faithful member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in downtown Madison. He enjoyed drawing and collecting Santa Claus wood carvings and antiques. He took great pride in watching the Shawe High School Band of Gold in parades. Joe's greatest joy of all was watching and supporting his sons' and grandchildren's sporting events. Joe died on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at his home in
Madison, Indiana with his loving family at his side.

Joe will be missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Leeodda "Lee" Hearn Knoebel of
Madison, Indiana; his loving sons, John Michael Knoebel and his wife Jill of
New Albany, Indiana,and Joseph D. Knoebel and his wife Jacki of
Madison, Indiana; his grandchildren, Lauren Knoebel, Allison Knoebel, Delaney Knoebel, and Jonathan Knoebel; his twin brother, John A. Knoebel and his wife Lynda of
Madison, Indiana; his sister in law, Patti Jo Hearn of
Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, John Gilbert Knoebel, died February 27, 1993, his mother, Virginia Catherine Niesse Knoebel, died February 16, 2009, his sister, Jane Ann Knoebel McClinton, died October 5, 2022 and her husband, Donald G. died March 26, 2021, his infant brother, John Alois Knoebel, died April 14, 1935, his sister in law, Diana Sue Kennedy Knoebel, died February 3, 1994, his niece, Niki Washer, died November 19, 1994, his nephew, Christopher Ray Washer, died March 18, 1995.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL
Funeral Mass will be conducted on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. by Father Christopher A. Craig at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in downtown
Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery,600 West Fifth Street in downtown
Madison, Indiana.
VISITATION
Friends may call Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive
Madison, Indiana.
THE ROSARY
The Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
FIREMAN'S SERVICE
A Fireman's Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. conducted by the Fairplay Fire Company No. 1.
