Stephen Ernest Morris passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2022, due to the effects of Multiple Myeloma. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandpa and will be deeply missed. Steve was born July 25, 1946, in Salt Lake City to James Ernest and Ruby Larsen Morris. He was the oldest of three children. He loved his sister Lorraine and his brother Wayne and maintained a great relationship with each of them throughout his life. He graduated from Highland High School, then joined the Utah Air National Guard. Steve then served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Brazilian mission for 27 months. On June 24, 1969,
Steve married Sylvia McClement in the Salt Lake Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Steve and Sylvia were blessed with five children – Mike, Michelle, Scott, Jennifer, and Kristen. Throughout his life Steve demonstrated his love and devotion for his family through the many adventures and vacations they enjoyed together. He taught his kids the value of education when he earned his MBA while working full time and raising his family. His daily life was an example of hard work and dedication. He was meticulous and thorough in everything he did.
Steve graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Aeronautic Technology. He and Sylvia moved to Renton, Washington, upon his accepting a position with Boeing. In 1979 they moved to North Ogden, and then to Pleasant View. He thoroughly enjoyed working for Thiokol Corp/ATK in the space shuttle program for 29 years until he retired in 2008.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Steve always served diligently in many callings, demonstrating his faith and love for his Savior Jesus Christ. He especially loved serving with his wife Sylvia after the kids had left home. Together they were service missionaries in inner-city Ogden, the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, and at Camp Ben Lomond in Ogden Valley. Steve and Sylvia also served a full time mission together in the Nebraska Omaha/Winter Quarters Mission. This was a highlight for both of them.
A true joy for Steve was his grandchildren. He was the best grandpa and constantly made the kids laugh. They always looked forward to visits and adventures with him. They all adored him and especially loved his "baby red elephant" stories. It was always obvious how proud he was of his grandkids and how much he loved each one of them.
Steve was intelligent, adventurous, and hard working. He loved backpacking trips, skiing, camping, and boating. He took great pride in his home and yard and in finishing any project with 110%. He was stalwart and courageous in these last years following his cancer diagnosis. Even when things were tough, he never complained but continued working and serving as long as his body would allow. His faith, courage, and spirit of endurance will always be an inspiration to his family.
Steve is survived by Sylvia, his wife of 53 years, who unselfishly cared for him and loved him unwaveringly. He will be incredibly missed by her and by his children: Mike (April) Morris of Thornton, CO; Michelle (Darren) Roylance of Farr West; Scott (Jenny) Morris of Bountiful; Jennifer (Kyle) Shields of Stansbury Park; and Kristen (Flynt) Bailey of Rio Rancho, NM; and his 18 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Wayne (Sandy) Morris and his sister Lorraine (Thom-deceased) McBride.
