Donald Hampton Johnson, age 69, passed away on November 27, 2024 at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was born on March 31, 1955, in Dunn, NC, to Hampton and Marie Grimes Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Denning Johnson, his sons, Hunter Alan Johnson and wife, Jessica, Hampton Blake Johnson and wife Sara; his four grandchildren, Everett, Carter, Nicholas and Wyatt, his brother Keith Grimes Johnson, and his beloved dog Charlie. Don is also survived by special nephew Len Rogers and family, along with other nieces and nephews.
He graduated from South Johnston High School, NC State University, and received a master's degree from Campbell University. He spent his life learning and studying, garnering certifications in many areas, including his North Carolina general contractor’s license. Don had his North Carolina and Florida real estate license. He loved his home community of Benson, NC, where he was a family businessman with his father and brother Keith, at Johnson’s Discount Center. He served as a City Councilman, Mayor, and Director of Public Utilities; he was also Director of Small Business for Johnston Community College. A member of the Shriners Hospital' Dunn Clowns and Benson Lions Club, Don was also a 32nd Degree Mason.
Don and Jenny moved to Florida in 2015 to be close to their grandchildren. He worked with both his sons prior to retirement, continuing to learn and study. He was very involved in his community in West Palm Beach. His neighbors all knew him as a man willing to lend a hand, lend an ear, or call for help. He loved life and wanted it to be full of laughter and fun. Don always had some wisdom to impart, some laughter to share, and a helping hand to lend. He loved his family, and he will be greatly missed by many who knew him.
