On a beautiful spring day, April 18, 1949, the world became a better place when Judy Ann Batchelor brought her bright shining spirit into this world. On March 9, 2024, the world lost some of this light when Judy lost her courageous 6-year battle with uterine cancer.
Judy was born into the family of Alvin Lamar and Aurelia Knighton Bodily Batchelor. She was the youngest of five children. After Alvin and Aurelia divorced, Bessie Allen came into Judy's life as her stepmother and brought her daughter, Vevedeen, into the family. Aurelia had a child in another marriage, Ranae, completing Judy's family.
Judy attended Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High School in 1967. In her junior year she met and dated Randy Kearl. On October 14, 1967, Randy and Judy were married. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 6, 1969. Into this union came four amazing children: Jody, Stacy, Alisa, and Michael.
Judy worked for a short time at the Post Café in the old Defense Depot Ogden (DDO). She also worked for Ogden City Schools as an administrative aide at Ben Lomond High School. Her favorite "job" was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved and cherished her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren more than words can convey.
The light Judy brought into this life may be dimmed, but it is not gone! It lives in the hearts of her beloved family. To say Judy was amazing is very much an understatement! She brought light into every life she touched. Her Greatest passion was her family. She was an accomplished seamstress, a very good quilter, and an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her legacy is imbedded into the lives of all her family on the importance of the family unit. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, residing in the Poplar 2nd Ward. One of her favorite callings was Primary President in the Ogden 62nd Ward where she touched the lives of many children.
Judy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Randy Kearl, children: Jody Harris, Stacy (Eugene) White, Alisa (Shay) Stewart, and Michael (Kristen Hodson) Kearl. Ten grandchildren: Alyssa Harris, Diogenese Bean, Dakota (Shelby Miller) Pray, Devery Stewart, Wyatt Kearl, Katrina Kearl, Shelby Stewart, Emilee White, Alivia Stewart, and Colter White. Three great-grandchildren: Amberly, Weston, and Taylinn Pray (with another due in June). Half-sister Ranae Willard, sister-in-law Elaine (Alvin E.) Batchelor, and brother-in-law & sister-in-law Roger and Debbie Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Alvin L. Batchelor. Aurelia K. Bodily, Bessie A. Batchelor. Siblings: Janet Batchelor, Alvin E Batchelor, Marion and Teddy Surrage, Jay and Nola Batchelor, Larry (Judith) Batchelor. Stepsister Vevedeen and Arden Wolverton, her in-laws: David R. and Freda Kearl, and sister-in-law Kristene Reese.
Per Judy's wishes, no funeral will be held. There will be a viewing on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the LDS Church, 2123 N 2000 W, Farr West, Utah. There will also be a viewing the following morning from 10:00am to 11:00am at the same location followed by a graveside service at 11:30am at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park at 100 N Monroe, Ogden, Utah.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful caregivers who so lovingly cared for Judy: Dr Harold Johnson, Dr. Eric Johnson, Dr. Cory Ferguson, all the amazing caregivers in the McKay-Dee Cancer & Infusion center, and Dr. Wendy Douglas. A heartfelt thanks also to the amazing staff of Canyon Home Care & Hospice who worked tirelessly to make Judy's last days as good as possible.
